It all started when…

The Raven Wood Experience grew out of the 2007 Western Canada Summer Games in Sherwood Park, Alberta when a team of energetic volunteers successfully executed 10 days of eclectic entertainment for the athletes, the volunteers and the general public. The idea of a continued legacy of local music events grew and the following year, the first “Spirit of Youth Day” was held. This then became the “Spirit of Youth Festival” and eventually, the “Folk Music Series” was launched. Over time, the idea of a bigger, family friend, all ages Festival continued to circulate and in 2018, the pieces began to fall in to place with the formation of “The Music Society of Strathcona County” as a registered non-profit organization.

The name “Raven Wood Experience” was chosen for this Roots Festival, featuring varied genres of music (folk, indie, roots, Celtic and jazz), art featuring local artisans, open for all ages, with an opportunity to showcase the culture and community of Strathcona County. The goal of the Festival is to provide an outdoor experience, mixing music and art, for all ages to enjoy together. In a short period of time, the work in moving forward with this annual event has been a large commitment, , and the Board of Directors has been working hard to deliver an exciting inaugural event. With the support of volunteers, sponsors, donors and other community organizations, the excitement is building as we work towards welcoming the bands, the artists and the participants to the Raven Wood Experience for 2019.
